Pediatric Compounding Pharmacy

A medication only helps if your child actually takes it. When the tablet is too big, the dose is too large, or the taste ends the conversation before the spoon gets close, that is a formulation problem — and it is what a compounding pharmacy is for.

We prepare children's medications on a prescriber's order, one patient at a time, in our own lab on Main Street in downtown Lititz. We are independent, we are licensed throughout Pennsylvania, and a pharmacist answers our phone.

What Compounding Solves for Children

Four practical problems, all of them as prescribed by your child's healthcare provider.

A dose scaled to your child

Commercial products are made in adult increments. When a prescriber writes a strength scaled to a child's weight and size, we prepare that strength rather than approximating it from a tablet meant for someone larger.

A form your child can actually take

If the only commercial version is a tablet, the prescriber can order a liquid, a chewable, or a freezer pop instead. The medication is the same; how it arrives is not.

Taste, named plainly

If the taste is the reason a dose gets skipped, that is worth fixing. We can flavor a preparation so giving it isn't a fight twice a day. Tell us what your child already likes.

Dyes and preservatives left out

When a child reacts to something in the commercial product and the prescription allows it, we can prepare the medication without that ingredient.

Forms We Prepare for Children

Which form makes sense is your prescriber's call, made with what you know about your child. These are the ones we prepare most often:

FormWhy it's used
Oral suspensions and solutionsWhen the commercial product has no liquid version
Chewable tablets and gummiesFor children past liquids but not ready to swallow a tablet
Lollipops and freezer popsA dose that doesn't look or feel like medicine
Creams and gelsTopical, prepared to the written order
SuppositoriesWhen an oral dose can't be kept down

Prescribers send us pediatric prescriptions across a range of categories:

  • Gastrointestinal
  • Cardiovascular
  • Behavioral and neurological, including ADHD and sleep
  • Antibiotics
  • Corticosteroids

That is representative rather than a catalog. Our full set of standard dosage forms is on the compounding services page — and if your child's prescription names something you don't see here, call and ask about it specifically.

Our scope, plainly

We prepare non-sterile medications only, always on a prescription written for a named patient. We don't prepare injectables or other sterile preparations.

For Pediatricians and Prescribers

We prepare patient-specific, non-sterile pediatric formulations on your prescription: scaled strengths, alternative dosage forms, flavored preparations, and preparations with specified dyes or preservatives omitted.

A named pharmacist will talk a formulation through with you before you write it. Call (717) 626-2222 and ask for a pharmacist. Prescriptions come in by e-prescribe, phone, or fax 717-626-7920. As a 503A pharmacy we cannot supply office stock — each preparation needs a prescription with a patient named on it. Account setup is covered on our providers page.

Our Pharmacists

Your child's preparation is made and checked by a named pharmacist here, not routed to an anonymous facility. You can meet the people who make it before you ever hand over a prescription.

They are formulation experts rather than pediatricians — what to prescribe is your prescriber's call. What we can tell you is what is possible to prepare, and how to give it.

How to Get Your Prescription Filled

  1. 1

Your child's prescriber sends the prescription.

They can e-prescribe it, call it in at (717) 626-2222, or fax it to 717-626-7920. If the form or the strength needs discussing, our pharmacists will talk it through with them.

  2. 2

Tell us what your child will take.

A flavor they like, a texture they refuse, an ingredient they react to — say it plainly when you call. It changes what we prepare, and it is easier to get right the first time.

  3. 3

    We prepare it here.

Each preparation is made individually for one child rather than pulled off a shelf, so there is preparation time involved. We'll tell you when to expect it when you call.

  4. 4

Pick it up, and ask us how to give it.

We'll go over measuring, storage, and what to do about a missed dose. Pick up at 100 East Main Street, use parking-lot pickup, or take free local delivery in the Lititz area.

What it will cost

Cost depends on the medication, the strength, and the form your prescriber wrote for, so there is no single number we can post. Call (717) 626-2222 with the details and we'll walk you through it.

Refills, transfers, and delivery

We handle transfers from another pharmacy and set up refills with one call. Free local delivery and parking-lot pickup are available in the Lititz area. Refills & transfers · Delivery & curbside

We are at 100 East Main Street in downtown Lititz. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 6:00, and Saturday, 9:00 to 1:00; closed Sunday. Call (717) 626-2222 or see our contact page for directions.

Questions

Common Questions from Parents

What is pediatric compounding?

It is preparing a child's medication individually, on a prescriber's order, when the commercial product doesn't work for that child — no liquid version exists, the dose isn't made small enough, the tablet can't be swallowed, or something in it needs to come out.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes, from your child's prescriber. They can e-prescribe it, call it in at (717) 626-2222, or fax it to 717-626-7920.

Can you flavor my child's medication?

In most cases, yes. Flavoring is one of the tools we use, along with changing the form entirely — a liquid, a chewable, or a freezer pop instead of a tablet. Tell us what your child will and won't take and we'll tell you what we can prepare.

My child reacts to a dye. Can you leave it out?

Often, yes. Dyes and preservatives can be left out of a preparation when the prescription allows it. Name the specific ingredient when you call and we will tell you plainly whether we can prepare it without.

The commercial medicine only comes as a tablet. What are the options?

That is exactly the gap compounding fills. Depending on what the prescriber orders, the same medication may be prepared as an oral suspension, a solution, a chewable, or another form a child can take.

How is the dose decided?

Your child's prescriber sets the strength, usually scaled to weight and size. We prepare to that written order — we don't determine the dose.

What will it cost?

It depends on the medication, the strength, and the form your prescriber wrote for, so there is no single number we can put on a page. Call us with the prescription details and we'll walk you through it.
